First and foremost I want to thank everyone who chooses to support me and my new venture into the world of e-commerce. I started Operation Noir because I felt that at a time like this it was very important for me to contribute to the recent movement of black culture celebration and the embracing of black skin. While I wanted to highlight our pride and confidence in ourselves, I also don't want to ignore the negative side of being black in a world that continues to oppress us and hate on us. I needed to find a way to help the cause that would fit in with who I am and what I can do. In the end Operation Noir was born. Through Operation Noir, I wanted to create a brand that would align with my values while accurately representing black culture and what it means to be Black. I believe the best way to understand our values and our mission is through our logo. In the upper left and lower right quadrant of our crest there is the Nkyinkyim symbol, an Adinkra symbol whose origin lies with the Akan people (from what is now Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire). The Nkyinkyim symbol essentially means "life's journey is twisted." As a Black person, navigating life can become very challenging and tiring when you are constantly faced with oppression, hatred, and feeling unwanted or out of place. While I recognize this is true, it is my goal that through Operation Noir we can continue to be uplifted, and showcase our culture to the world. In the upper right quadrant of our crest we have the infamous Black Power symbol. What better representation of Black resilience and uplifting than the Black fist. Through Operation Noir I want to inspire pride and a want to be better and to build for the future. Finally in the lower left quadrant of the crest we have the Bese Saka, another Adinkra symbol. The Bese Saka is the symbol of the cola nut which in west African culture represents unity, welcome, wealth and abundance among other things. As Operation Noir grows, I hope that I will be able to give more back to my community and help us move towards a better future. Operation Noir has become my way to work towards a better future for myself and our community. I wanted to challenge and push myself to do something bigger than me and this is it. Once again thank you for your support and I hope you enjoy what we have to offer!
